Are you making the time to make great marketing?
In my opinion, it is the job of the business owner and the marketing director to set the tone for this.
This video comes by way of a little inspiration from a conversation I had yesterday with a strategic partner of mine who is also in the marketing and advertising space. They are struggling with this exact thing.
They struggle to perpetually create content for themselves to share on social media, etc. As we discussed it more, I saw the real problem – they were not consistently taking time each week on their own marketing.
You need to be your #1 priority and your #1 client to make great marketing.
They were doing what I see so many companies do. They were trying to have meetings regarding their own marketing after they were finished with all the client meetings and project execution and done putting out all the fires of the day. So they were trying to have their own marketing meetings at like three or four o’clock in the afternoon.
That’s never going to work.
At the end of the day, everyone is tired, uninspired, and drained from the day. They’re probably thinking about going to the beach, happy hour, golf, or whatever they like to do after work. They’re not in a marketing mindset.
What I challenge you to do, and what I hope to inspire you to do, is to flip that around. Have your marketing meetings with your team and/or vendors first thing in the morning and preferably early in the week. I recommend you do this every Monday morning at 8:00 am.
It will change your business, I promise you.
First thing every Monday morning, log into your website analytics and review them with your team. Look at your social media analytics and the data from your ad campaigns. Make sure it all aligns with your overall business strategy.
Then, take the next hour or so to discuss and plan with your content team – whoever is responsible for producing the photos, videos, and messages that go out into the world to attract and build your audience. Make sure you are all on the same page for the tone and theme of everything, as well as the calls to action.
It’s important for your team to have a plan so they can stop being so reactionary with your marketing efforts. It will allow everyone to relax a little bit so they can think, brainstorm, and therefore produce better ideas for your marketing.
I promise you this will work. As my dad, who I miss dearly, used to say, “you only get out of something, what you put into it.”
So, if you put junk time in, you’re going to get junk out. If you put love in, you’re going to get big love out.
If you want great marketing, make it a priority every week. Set time for it, be consistent with it, and make sure everyone on your team and in your organization are on the same page.
